Dunki is a 2023 Hindi-language comedy drama film from India that is based on the “donkey flight” method of illegal immigration. Rajkumar Hirani, working under Rajkumar Hirani Films, co-wrote, co-produced, co-edited, and co-directed the movie with Jio Studios and Red Chillies Entertainment. Starring are Boman Irani, Vicky Kaushal (listed as a special appearance), Taapsee Pannu, and Shah Rukh Khan. In April 2022, the movie’s official announcement was made. Principal photography started that same month and took place intermittently across a number of legs. Filming was place in Mumbai, Jabalpur, Kashmir, Budapest, London, Jeddah, and Neom, and it was completed by late April 2023. Pritam and Shekhar Ravjiani wrote the film’s soundtrack, Aman Pant wrote the background score, C. K. Muraleedharan, Manush Nandan, and Amit Roy handled the cinematography, and Rajkumar Hirani, the director, edited it.

The global theatrical debut of Dunki took place on December 21, 2023. Both spectators and critics gave it varying degrees of positive and unfavorable responses. With a production and marketing expenditure of ₹120 crore (US$15 million), the movie has made around ₹470.6 crore in total revenue globally, making it the fifth highest-grossing Hindi film of 2023 and the ninth highest-grossing Indian film of the same year. The movie garnered nine nominations for the 69th Filmfare Awards, where Kaushal took home the Best Supporting Actor trophy.

About Director:

Born on November 20, 1962, Rajkumar “Raju” Hirani is an Indian director most recognized for his Hindi cinema productions. He has won eleven Filmfare Awards and four National Film Awards, among other honors. One of the most successful Indian directors, according to some, is Hirani. Even though his films are frequently humorous, they frequently address important social topics with humor and emotional intelligence.After passing out from FTII in editing, he began his career as a film editor. However, a negative experience compelled him to switch to ad films, where he created multiple successful advertising. The action drama Mission Kashmir (2000) directed by Vidhu Vinod Chopra was his debut picture as a professional editor.

Despite his desire to direct, Hirani took a year off and returned with the script for the comedy-drama Munna Bhai M.B.B.S. to Chopra, who agreed to help finance it. The movie became a huge commercial and critical hit when it was released. Hirani received the Filmfare Award for Best Screenplay and his first nomination for the Filmfare Award for Best Director for it, along with the National Film Award for Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment and the Filmfare Award for Best Film (Critics).
Following the triumph of MBBS, he directed Lage Raho Munna Bhai (2006), the sequel that became the second highest earning film of the year, and the comedy-drama 3 Idiots (2009), the biggest grossing Indian film of its era, about a coming-of-age.
